Objectives

At the end of this activity, students should be better able to (select as many as apply):

express themselves

Activity

Divide the class into groups of 5 to 6.

Give the groups about 20 minutes to convert whatever they have learnt in that topic into a performance piece like a rap or a performative poem or even a song.

The idea is to create a catchy way to remember the key information for that particular topic.

After the 20 minutes are up, get each group to perform what they have prepared.

All group members have to be involved in the performance in one way or another.

Score each performance based on quality of content (up to 10 points), entertainment value (up to 10 points), and effectiveness in creating something catchy (up to 10 points).

Time Needed for Activity

45 MINUTES

Additional Resources

None

Rationale

Considering how to best capture the key elements of content and how to deliver them in a catchy way that is also entertaining will get students to focus not only on what they retain but how they can share what they retain. This is an excellent way to get students to practice how to express themselves in non-traditional ways.
