At the end of this activity, students should be better able to (select as many as apply):
analyse
use logic
Divide the class into groups of 5 to 6.
Give each group a copy of a newspaper or any current events publication.
Tell the groups they have about 15 minutes to go through the newspaper.
They have to find a way to connect whatever they have learnt to something they can find in the newspaper. It is up to them to make a logical connection between what they have learnt to the information in their newspaper.
After 15 minutes, get each group to make their presentations. The other groups will then determine if each of their connections are valid or not
30 MINUTES
None
Trying to find something relevant to their topic in the news makes students consider not only what it in the news but also what they have studied. They truly have to analyse both sets of information to be able to make clear connections.
Creating a link between things that might not be connected and convincing others that that link exists encourages students to make logical arguments
